Dear Fredrik ,
Yesterday, over 60 Members of US Congress skipped Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s war-mongering speech before a joint session of Congress. This is truly historic.
The backlash is sure to be fierce, so we’re fully committed to letting our senators and representatives know we have their backs when it comes to holding Israel accountable.
We need them to continue to show courage, and I’ve been talking to congressional staffers who assure me that a thank you goes a long way.
If you value this work, I hope you’ll chip in $5 or $18 or more to help us continue pressuring Congress to hold Israel accountable to human rights standards.
In fact, in just 6 weeks we’re opening our first-ever D.C. office and putting a full-time Federal Policy Organizer to work. Because the cracks in official support for Israeli policies are only going to keep growing.
With you and our partners in the SkipTheSpeech campaign— the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation, RootsAction, CodePink and American Muslims for Palestine—we generated:
110,000 letters
20,000 petition signatures
Hand-deliveries to 75 offices on the Hill and 30 local district offices
Generated literally thousands of calls to Congress on a National Call-In day, as a counter AIPAC’s Lobby day
In addition, Jewish Voice for Peace:
Placed 7 op-eds in local districts, including in the Washington Post and the Chicago Sun-Times
Broadcasted our unique analysis with experts from the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation and the National Iranian American Council
Reached nearly 3 million people on Facebook in one week with posts about the speech.
Please help us do even more and chip in $5 or $18 now. Help us launch our formal presence in D.C. with all the momentum forward progress on this work requires.
At Jewish Voice for Peace, we believe that ending unconditional US support for Israel is the key to reaching a just peace for both Israeli Jews and Palestinians, so we are working with you to build a movement to pressure Congress to hold Israel accountable for human rights abuses.
To do this, our elected leaders need to know that they have grassroots support to challenge the Israel lobby that fights for the status quo. Help us get there.
